Contour HD
This camera is an amazing piece of equipment. It films in both 720 and 1080 HD formats. The size of this camera is about the size of your palm and weighs next to nothing so mounting it anywhere is easy. When you turn it on there are two lasers that point out in the direction that the camera is facing so that you know what you’re looking at. This is very helpful with the mounting option that I am using on the strap of my goggles. There are several mounting accessories you can get with this camera to mount almost anywhere you can imagine, even a picantinny rail mount for weapons mounting, and with its slim design it does not become a target. The camera can be mounted either up-right or sideways depending on location and to do this all you have to do is twist the bezel so that the dots line up in the orientation you are mounting. You must becareful where you mount this camera though because teh lens is easily broken due to no protective case. You can buy a waterproof case that will protect it but it will also add size and the camera will loose its slimline look. To start recording all you have to do is slide the switch on the top forward revealing a red plate and you will be recording and to stop just slide it back. The clarity is amazing as well as the audio. You can clearly see and hear everything that is going on. It comes with a 2GB micro SD card but it can use a microSD card up to a 32GB for practically unlimited hours of footage.
Pros:
HD recording, sleek profile, lightweight, laser sighting
Cons:
Have to upload the footage to a computer to view, no/low light environments are hard to see without external light source, protective case changes size of camera
Overall:
With all of the different mounting options and its size and weight and also the ability to record in 1080 HD resolution I give this camera a 8/10 only because you have to have a computer as well as the camera to view the footage

GoPro Hero
The GoPro Hero is a great camera. It can film in multiple definitions including 1080p giving it very clear quality. The camera comes with a hard plastic case that is shock proof and depending on which back door you decide to use, waterproof as well. The case can take direct hits from bbs firing at over 400fps and not come out with a scratch. The case allows for multiple mounting solutions with the addition of the different angle arms and connectors and base plates. This camera only has a few drawbacks though, first being its size. The GoPro is a block shape that does not have a slim profile and becomes a target. There is only one place you can mount this camera without it changing your outline and that is on your head. There is a head strap that can hold the camera in place but it can wobble slightly while running around. If you have a helmet with an NVG mount, that is your best place for mounting. There are other arms and bases that allow you to mount it to your weapon and other places but it will drastically change your outline causing you to become a bigger target. Unlike the Contour, the GoPro can plug into any TV and be watched using the supplied AV cables giving you instant playback or live feed. The price is very steep on this camera though to some it may be worth it, available from $250.00 starting.
Pros:
1080p, waterproof/shockproof case, compatibility to TV
Cons:
Size, weight, mounting options
Overall:
This is a great camera for anyone looking to catch events in high definition but you just have to figure out where the best place to mount it is. Only because of its shape and lack of mounting solutions the GoPro Hero gets a rating of 8/10.
